Robert Alan Haber is a prominent American activist, born in 1936. He gained recognition for his involvement in the left-wing student activist organization, Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), where he served as the first president after being elected in 1960. During his time with the organization, Haber held the official title of Field Secretary, according to FBI files.

This conference is notable for marking the debut of SDS and featured invitations to key figures in the civil rights movement, including four organizers of the 1960 NAACP sit-ins in Greensboro, North Carolina.
