Milt Gross

Milt Gross was a prominent American cartoonist and animator, active from the late 19th century until his passing in 1953. Born in 1895, Gross developed a distinctive style characterized by exaggerated cartooning and the incorporation of Yiddish-inflected English dialogue into his work. This unique approach helped to set him apart and establish his reputation as a talented cartoonist. Through his creations, Gross also contributed to the popular culture of his time, originating memorable phrases that became ingrained in the national consciousness.

Gross's legacy extends beyond his own body of work, as he also made a lasting impact on the cartooning community. One of his notable characters, Count Screwloose, gave rise to the catchphrase "Iggy, keep an eye on me!", which gained widespread recognition. Additionally, the National Cartoonists Society established a fund in his name to provide support to cartoonists and their families in need. Although the Milt Gross Fund was eventually absorbed into the Society's Foundation in 2005, its charitable mission continues to this day, serving as a testament to Gross's enduring influence on the world of cartooning.
