J. J. Benjamin
Romanian-Jewish historian and traveler (1818–1864)
J. J. Benjamin, also known by his pen name "Benjamin II", was a historian and traveler of Romanian-Jewish descent. Born in 1818, he spent his life exploring and documenting various aspects of history. His work was influenced by his Jewish heritage and his experiences as a traveler, which likely shaped his perspective on historical events.
As a historian, Benjamin made significant contributions to the field, although the specifics of his work are not well-detailed. His choice of pen name, "Benjamin II", is a nod to Benjamin of Tudela, a medieval traveler and writer. This allusion suggests that Benjamin saw himself as a continuation of a long line of Jewish historians and travelers. He passed away in 1864, leaving behind a legacy as a prominent figure in the field of history.
